Both posts are very apt. The filter is: Do you see that the coup has already happened? Or do you think we’re jockeying for position in the usual way? The frosting on the cake is that we’re actually going to join the club of tyrants. Initiation: conquer and ravage a smaller country. There will be important democracies left—the original imperial powers, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, Canada—but the world is trending down. And we, despite our pretenses, are simply adopting the governance model of the southern states up until the 1970s—white supremacy as fascism. Your Chilean model fits but without as much bloodshed YET: we are already down in the pit and we better start digging out. And remember the key is power. It’ll be very invigorating to win in 2026 especially in light of the GOP’s ferocious voter suppression and the billionaires’ onslaught, but it won’t give us much real power. Ah yes dark days ahead. I feel for my grandkids (6 & 8). Forza tutti!
Rachel’s opening segment tonight introduces “the new leadership of the country” and she proceeds to cover a half dozen little spontaneous demonstrations at social security offices around the country where groups of (mostly) boomers are protesting Trump and Musk. Each time she repeats the “new leadership” phrase. It’s very effective and just what you have said was needed. She even concludes with a snarky bit about how mighty AARP is even finally paying attention to the crisis. My guess would be that new phone trees for future actions have grown out of these modest demonstrations. All hail the new leaders!
Marc, with voter suppression being a real thing with tossing out primarily Democratic voter registrations and ballots, should we muddy the waters and all register as Republican or at least Independent?

It kinda depends on which state u live and how the primary is designed. Also need to evaluate your local and state reps.
Yes, I know. Independents are excluded from primaries in my current residence.
This one pretty much forced me to hit the subscribe button. Stay sane, Marc.
Thank you Joe!
