Since Geoffrey Hinton pioneered AI, you may want to consider what he has to say about the threat it poses to humanity. You write, " If it’s a machine, it can be unplugged or disabled. We suspect!" Maybe not. Read Ben Lazzarus's interview of Hinton in the June issue of Spectator World (Issue No. 45). https://thespectator.com/topic/geoffrey-hinton-godfather-ai-dangers-artificial-intelligence/
I'm more inclined to think that the ability for our nation to have an educated and intelligent public has long since past, as our nation has a new religion, that of greed and power over others. It would be wonderful to be proven wrong.
I do hope AI ( not the plagiarizing theft version ) can advise and solve intelligently the significant problems our greed culture of vulture capitalism has created, and that people will be willing to push for positive and constructive change against Oligarchy.
Maybe then, those in power will step up and do what is best for humanity to survive and thrive in a safe and well functioning world of fairness and justice for all...
... Ah, one can dream...
...but, frankly, I won't be holding my breath.
But I will do what I can to push for that 'StarTrekian' goal.
