I agree with your alarm! But I read the following with dismay in The Guardian this morning:

"Top Democrats, however, did not immediately react to the results with the same level of dismay that might be expected from the dramatic return of their nemesis. Instead it was heralded as an early beginning to the national battle for the White House.

Much reporting suggests Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign team wants to face Trump over other challengers. Doing so would allow them to campaign more on the threat Trump poses than the virtues of Biden himself."

Did these people learn nothing in 2016? These Democrats seem to ignore the fact Trump has charisma (so did Hitler), more so that DeSantis, Haley or Biden, and this is what will continue to attract voters to him. Ultimately, if Trump becomes President again, the greatest part of the blame must fall on the leadership of the Democratic Party.

What was the only thing he got passed in his term? Huge handout to the rich. Use racism and fear to divide the populace while the top keeps sucking up money. He doesn't want to rule the whole world like Hitler, thank the fates, but other than that the parallels are stark.

And as we speak -the corporate democratic machine which is what the majority of democratic politicos continue to support, which made a trump election possible in the first place, amps up its spending to defeat progressive dems in upcoming elections and primaries their own progressive legislators with toe-the-line corporate dem candidates. Trump Derangement Syndrome isn't pointing out how corrupt and immoral this clown is- it's acting like the Democrats are NOT corrupt. Selective outrage. Where did all those pink pu**sy protestors disappear to? Must be nice to be able to pick and choose when to be angry and protest when its convenient for you, while others don't have the luxury of taking a day off from throwing stones. Reminds me of the Saturday night live skit of election night 2016 with Chris Rock and Dave chappelle , who weren't the least bit surprised by trumps victory. And then there are their 4 friends, who show how clueless they really are about this country. Well senor Biden, you'll get my vote again out of sheer desperation and necessity. Hope it helps.

Well Marc, thanks for the cheery note! I'm a 73 year old yellow dog Democrat, who went to my first demonstration with the SDS in 1968. Frankly I've always been picking bones with the horrible US governments since I was 10 years old and started to recognize the fascist-religious war-mongering American public. From John Birchers to blood thirsty racist jerks to capitalist pigs, I hated them all, and worked hard to keep them from power. But here we are now 65 years later, and things seem worse than ever. Until just recently, I've always harbored plans to move to another country, and have passed on several opportunities like Canada, Switzerland, Wales, France, even Afghanistan. My mother had two brothers whose service in WWII left them terribly mentally scarred, and begged her not to let me get involved. Here I am probably on my last lap, seeing the Great American Assholes of our time: Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Trump, Bushes, continue their bloody grip, supported by homo- boobians who control everything. I think we may be at the precipice of fascism that Germans endured in the '30s-'40s. I don't think anything I can do, like knocking on doors, giving money to liberal candidates. On the other hand I did spend a lot of time and money on Obama, and that worked. Meanwhile, I'm looking for a plan B. I have several friends who sold out, moved to Portugal, when Trump came in, and are delighted that they did. Yes, we are on the road to fascism rule, and the only hope is they fuck everything up so bad, they will be defeated in every way they choose. That maybe the smart people will see the light, and kick fascist ass down the street. I'm amazed how many smart young people are out there, and if they can unite against the fascist mobs, they can certainly beat them and have another renaissance, like the 1960s.
