Like with other vaccines, guess what areas in Los Angeles have low vaccination rates. If you said "affluent white areas" like, oh, say, Topanga, you get "Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner!"
It also really doesn't help that the CDC has totally fucked up with removing the mask mandate and not keeping track of any breakthrough cases that don't result in hospitalization. We already have problems convincing fools. At this point very, very smart people are disagreeing over whether breakthrough infections are really rare or not. I think they're not all that rare.
I think Walensky should be fired over it. I propose replacing her with Barbara Ferrer, Ph.D, MPH, the director of the LA County Dept of Public Health. She hasn't made any of the missteps that Walensky has made. The head of the CDC is traditionally picked from people who have run large city or state public health departments, so she is well qualified. Mind you, I don't even know if she would take the job, but she's done a great job, reinstating the mask mandate indoors as soon as cases started going up again and continuing to keep track of all types of breakthrough infection.
