I disagree with you about Bidenomics. The massivebills Biden has gotten passed has greatly effected the economy for the better. Why do you think republicans, who voted against the bills, are not trying to take credit? I read Heather Cox Richardson's newsletter every night and she has laid out the Biden successes very well. Question for you: what do you think about Cornel West running on the Green Party ticket? It feels like Nader and Jill Stein all over again.
Francie.. when a president is at 9% popularity it seems rather absurd to go around telling people how much he has really done for them and they should be more appreciative is a great way to get down to 35%. It's insulting. The massive post covid bills were passed btw with some bi partisan support. Also, if Trump had won the 2020 election you would have seen similar if possibly not quite as large bills get passed because THE HEALTH OF THE ECONOMY AND PRESSURE FROM WALL STREET DEMANDED IT. The true levers of economic control reside with the Federal Reserve Bank that takes no orders from any president. Also let us note that even though the Democrats controlled both houses and the White House for 2 years, the federal minimum wage was not raised -- thanks to conservative Democrats (and Republicans) and there are still workers, today, who earn $7.25 an hour while tipped employees are paid less $3 an hr. The Democrats, also with a GOP assist, bungled the Child Tax Care Credit that has now evaporated. Nor have the Democrats lifted a baby finger to push the pro-union Pro Act they promised to pass. Or at least fight for. Half the families in the country do no have an extra $400 on hand to meet an emergency. Does Bidenomics want to claim that victory as well? Many states have raised the min wage. We are way ahead of the pack here in WA where that is now like $14. BUT the generalized pay hikes and the tight labor market have NOTHING to do with Joe Biden, sorry. They have are pure market responses to labor shortages caused by the pandemic. Perhaps you should speak to a couple of rail workers who saw their strikes BROKEN by Biden and get their opinion. I used to read Heather Cox Richardson till I got bored. She's smart ad lucid but she is unequivocal apologist for everything Joe Biden does and her newsletter reads more like agit prop than serious political analysis. It's Red Meat for uncritical Democrats and frankly I learn nothing from it. While I am not in their ranks by any stretch, I find the the Never Trump Republicans like Tim Miller, JVL and Steven Schmidt to have a much deeper and reliable read on what the Maga-ites are up to.
I don't agree with everything Biden does, by any means, but i really disagree with you when you say trump would have achieved the same massive legislations if he was elected. we didn't see that at all when he was in office. His biggest claim to fame was massive tax cuts for the wealthy. The Inflation Reduction Act, the Chips Act are bringing jobs, largely to red states (that voted against the Acts). This is from one of Heather's newletters; gives you an idea with Bidenomics has achieved. "...Steven Ratner, economic analyst for Morning Joe, today noted that new manufacturing construction is growing fast and is on pace to be close to $190 billion this year. In the entire decade of the 2010s, it was less than $100 billion. This growth comes from the Inflation Reduction Act, the Infrastructure and Jobs Act (also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law), and the CHIPS and Science Act.
Today, the government announced a $9.2 billion loan to Ford Motor Company to support the construction of three battery factories in Kentucky and Tennessee. The factories are already under construction through a collaboration between Ford and a leading South Korean battery company.
More than 100 battery and electric-vehicle plants, representing about $200 billion in investments, are planned or already under construction thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act that funds such projects in order to attract private investment. That government investment and growth in manufacturing are strongest in Republican-dominated states, notwithstanding that not a single Republican voted for the Inflation Reduction Act that funds such investment, and that Republicans continue to try to gut that law. Republican-dominated states stand to get about $337 billion in investment, while Democratic-dominated states look to get about $183 billion."
Biden, Harris and others who support him absolutely have to let the American people know that the increase in manufacturing and jobs is bcs of his policies. Especially in swing states. We need those votes and can't let the republican goods take credit for something they had no part of. Let them waste their time on Hunter Biden while the Dems show that they are working for the American people.
with all due respect, Cox's newsletter is read by a tiny elite of liberal college educated Democrats. It will have NO effect on the election. As to the Green Party". Delusional and Dangerous.
I wasn't suggesting that Heather's newsletter would effect the election, i just meant that it provides some great information and her take on Bidenomics is very positive.
I understand. She is very positive about everything Biden does or says. Makes for hard reading. I am voting for Biden and want him to win. But truth is always paramount. I believe Heather is truthful, but I believe she is (perhaps willfully) blind to many of Biden's shortcomings and vulnerabilities. Right, she will not affect the election. At present, I am interested only in things that will -- the rest are just words and we are going to need more than rhetoric to defeat the forces of nascent fascism. Thanks for ur engagement and comments that are always welcome and appreciated. Arguing back to you is a compliment meaning that I take seriously what you say. :)
I appreciate you taking the time and energy to engage with me!
I was wondering if you have a link to your interviews on Chile? I was reading them, so interesting, and seem to have somehow lost the link. Thanks much!
thanks Marc!!!
