Hard to believe there are no other comments on here; this is such a contentious issue. I was so happy to read you state that "none of it justifies Hamas' mass slaughter". I've been reading so much in the past few days of people who are justifying what Hamas did, even celebrating the slaughter, saying Israelis deserve what they got. I think the most horrifying thing for me was see people at the pro-Palestinian rally in NYC chanting "700" with big smiles on their faces. 700 Israelis dead. and that's something to celebrate; children, babies, elderly. Then learning that the NYC Democratic Socialists of America had joined and supported this rally. Too much for me to take in. And then reading about all the student groups across America who have written treatises supporting Hamas' actions; privileged assholes who see the world in black and white. I have nothing new or profound to say. I feel the trauma, sitting here in upstate NY; i can't begin to comprehend how it feels to be in Israel and Gaza right now. Our world is incomprehensible.
