BARCELONA— Two weeks ago on the eve of this present journey I promised I would keep posting. In the best traditions of the American Presidency, I broke that promise.
I’m sure your lives went on just fine without my chattering but I am feeling a tad guilty. Truth is, we were having such a wonderful time in Dublin, Barcelona, and Girona, and while walking several miles a day, and consuming whole rice paddies of paella, I just did not have the time or energy to write. The barrels of Sangria consumed further impeded my productivity.
It was enough to skim the news from the embattled US and its radical right lunatic president to sense reading much deeper and then writing about it would have been a painful and unnecessary downer, to say the least. The lead paragraphs to every story was nauseating enough. What’s more, those interested in the news hardly needed my voice as there was so much popping every day, it seemed a futile task to weigh in especially with a 6-10 hour time difference.
I am still in Barcelona today, Sunday. We return to Dublin on Monday to catch a plane and then are back home Monday night.
There’s a whole of a lot of consequential events coming up this month and I intended to produce a lot of commentary starting mid-week after restoring a day or two of energy. Coming up is Trump V. SCOTUS, how to turn the current rise in resistance into an opposition that challenges state power, and the coming crisis of a big split inside MAGA over how to best transfer a trillion dollars or so to the wealthy from impoverished and disabled Medicaid recipients without igniting a voter rebellion.
Could be a bit of a problem.
See you in a couple of days!
Everybody deserves a break every now and then, it helps us preserve our sanity.
Glad to hear your having fun in Barcelona. I think if you stop drinking barrels of Sangria you'll recover by Monday ;-p. Will be quite a change from the countries of Higgins and Sanchez to the one of demented donald.
