It only took six weeks, but earlier this morning Senate majority leader Mitch “McTurdle” McConnell has trod toward a microphone and congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for winning the election. Duh.
Good news or bad news? His statement means absolutely nothing as we have known all along that as evil as Mitch is, he is NOT stupid. He knew from election night onward what the skinny was.
That makes this morning’s recognition even worse than if he didn’t do it. It’s akin to Tony Soprano blowing up your restaurant. And then showing up 45 days later as you are rebuilding to tell you what a good job you are doing.
The leadership of the Republican Party — in the House, the Senate, the RNC, — along with 17 GOP Attorneys General have spent the last month in an attempt to help Trump stage a a slapstick-level self-coup.
Now that the Electoral College has spoken, the same Republicans will absolutely continue their campaign of overt sedition and subversion. Yes, more of them will now recognize that Biden was elected. Dozens, if not scores, of the Congressional Republican Delegation, however, will be very reticent to ever admit Biden was elected “legitimately.” Stunning as it might have been, more than 125 House Republicans had signed on to the farcical and now failed suit that asked the Supremes to outright void perfectly legal and certified votes from four swing states that Biden won.
Not since the civil war has such a chunk of government has openly tried to sink the constitution.
We must not forget or forgive this. The names of these subversives must be well circulated and posted everywhere so that these Quislings are scorned, ostracized and challenged whenever and wherever they surface after pulling their noggins out of Trump’s ample ass.
Mitch is in a different class than these House nitwits. He is arguably the second most powerful man in American politics…and will remain in the top 3 or 4 even if he loses his majority next month in the Georgia runoffs.
He is the unchallenged, unscathed capo di tutti cappi of the U.S. congress and with a simple thumbs up or even a more frequent thumbs down, he can order the terminal hit on any legislation whatsoever that comes from the House.
He is not just an obstruction artist. He is a gang leader who bloodlessly, nonchalantly, and continuously kills off aid and support to the elderly, the sick, the vulnerable, and yes, even to a struggling middle class who all toil while enriching the greedy cronies and profiteers who Mitch truly represents.
What’s most frustrating to me is that there seems no legal and not much of a moral way to punish Mitch or the House crazies as they so much richly deserve. Mitch we can only take out 6 years from now (!) in the ballot box.
We can reduce his power significantly and we can overwhelm his wide-eyed foot soldiers in the rest of Congress. We can do that if we promise to ourselves that we will not disengage from politics just because Biden is now in the White House, if we build our grass roots organizations, and we build an organizing and mobilization network that eschews cheap “clicktivism” and blinfly hoping for top-down change. It will only come from us.
I don't like this format. It appears to have lost a long comment I wrote and the type is way too small for my aging eyes. Can you fix the font?
