Harris Batters An Angry And Bitter Trump

But in a country where 47% support a demented imbecile not sure what it means

Unfortunately there is good internet in Costa Rica where I am relaxing this week so of course I watched the debate.  I was dreading it.

I wound up loving it. She really kicked his sad fat ass.

I thought Kamala Harris would do well and was being underestimated. She’s been a pol for more than two decades and has debated people much more intelligent and skilled than Trump.

But she did much better than I expected.  Much better.  She was focused, calm, cool and did not take any of Trumps’s bait. I loved the way she looked at him with constant pity. I loved the way she turned to the audience and basically said with her expression, you want THIS guy?

Trump came off as extremely angry, bitter and unable to stay on track with almost any question – you know, The Weave? Incoherent.

He offered absolutely nothing except fear mongering and lies about migrants (still eating our pets) that I am sorry to say with much deliberation, tracks very closely with the way the National Socialists prepared the German people to fear Jews – who were less than 1% of the population.

And then there there were abducted pets! Killer migrants! Migrant crime! His nonsense about Russia and Ukraine! Afterbirth abortions! Charlottesville! Defense of the Jan6 thugs! And so much much more total bullshit and lies.

And The Idiot kept taking her bait and it was wonderful to watch him contain himself from literally exploding on live TV.

The modern presidential debate was invented by TV and is by definitionit is a gimmick and a farce.  If the debates were on the scale of Lincoln-Douglas they would mean something.  So, no, I am skeptical that this will do much –unless there really is a significant number of undecided who were just waiting to see if Harris had horns or wore a Red Star.  If that’s the case, her win tonite could be something more.

And for the progressives, lefties and others disappointed that the Democratic Party is not a socialist party (it was the party of Jim Crow 60 years ago), but are now uncomfortable because Harris’s discourse was pro-military, patriotic and pro-Nato, it would have been political malpractice. Like it or not, those are the values that most voters hold and Harris is not running to be chair of the DSA, she is running to be President of the United States. And if you think there are more votes to be won by ignoring the center when your opponent leaves it wide open for you to capture, you would flunk both basic math and PoliSci 101. (I actually saw some FB posts saying Harris should reject the Cheney endorsement. Please.).

Maybe, maybe there are some Trump supporters who decided tonite they are going to change course, but if they came this far with Orange Jesus, I’m sort of skeptical.

Bottom line that I posted in a diff form earlier on FB.  Trump’s strategy deliberately ignores the center, the middle.  He has hit his ceiling there.  His strategy is to scrape the bottom of the barrel and pick up enough of the 90 million goobers so out of it they rarely vote and when they do, it is usually for the wrong reasons.

So make no mistake. If you found Trump as stupid and obnoxious as I do, there are millions of Americans who are looking only for that. They expect no real material rewards from Trump.  They merely want him to punish and abuse the people of color, the LGBTQ, “liberals,” the educated, their neighbors with a new car.  They want a dictatorship.

And rare kudos from me to the moderators! Did someone drug them? With speed? They actually knocked down three of his biggest lies. I couldn’t believe it.

That said, I don’t think Trump did himself any favors.  It’s going to be close and the 8 weeks will be hell on wheels.

A final comment. I took a quick look at Twitter which Musk has turned into a White Nationalist Toilet and the first 500 entries were all anti Harris tnx to Musk.  Alongside the extremists, nazis  and fascists were the multiple posts of Trump Fifth Columnist Jill Stein of the Green Party.

Harris’s inching toward a more palatable position on Gaza was ignored and mocked.  Missing from the Greens were any concerns about Trump’s answers on Ukraine and Israel which were simply horrific and should make those moaning and pissing about Genocide Joe think twice before doing something really stupid.

Harris clearly won.  But in a country where 44-49% of the voters support a wildly ignorant, mendacious, vicious and dangerous convicted criminal in love with dictators we cannot be sure what difference it will make. 

I have been saying all day that no word in English is more dangerous than HOPE. But I am hoing this demented imbecile gets crushed.

P.S. I’ve gotten some flak that I’m some sort of Democratic dupe znd enable of genocide —only those who do not know my history would be so far from the truth. I was one of only two dozen signers of a full page NYTimes ad in 2000 supporting so not only do u need to make the arguments against the Democrats, I could write them for you.

I think in retrospect the support of Nader radically underestimated the danger of GW Bush and I plead at least no lo contendere.

But let me clear, this is NOT a normal election. This is strictly a defensive election to thwart a real threat of anti-democratic rule. I have been a socialist my whole adult life. I make no illusions whatsoever about what the shortcomings of a Harris administration will be. Believe me, I get it. But I am not supporting Harris because I think she will push great social change.

I am supporting Hrris because I OPPOSE the social change that MAGA wants to impose on us and suffocate our democracy. If Harris is elected, then, yes, time to push her hard for change and build powerful social movements. But our task for the next 56 days is to defeat and crush American authoritarianism.
