The Trump campaign is in a tailspin.  He is no longer winning. He remains both a mortal threat to democracy and a laughable and even pathetic clown.  He is also scared to death because he cannot believe he is being outpaced by a Black woman.  He is flailing. His “news” conference in Mar-A-Lago Thursday, in a desperate attempt to regain attention, was definitely a weird, incoherent gaggle that was 75% lies, 65% hallucinatory, and 75% total incoherence.

Trump today proposed to do three debates including the ABC debate he earlier said he would not do.

That’s what a loser does.

Trump is losing.  But he is not beaten yet. The job is not finished. 

And part of the problem is the MSM that seems to be so frickin devoid of imagination that is retreating to its horrid 2016 mode.  Today, all the networks, including MSNBC, carried the entirety of Trump’s “news” conference that produced no news except Trump’s delusional statement that hs January 6 rally was bigger than MLK’s Washington historic rally (which was actually five times bigger).  Oh.. yes. It was also evident that Trump, the ignoramus, doesn’t know what mifepristone is!

The reporters were an embarrassment, to say the least. They were cowed and passive, asking some of the stupidest questions possible, like “what do you think of Harris not picking Josh Shapiro?”  And when Trump skirted all questions with long incoherent rants, there were no follow ups from the somnolent press corps!

I’m sorry but who gives AF what Trump thinks about Shapiro? Fire that idiot reporter.  Hey, reporters!  You have before you the unique possibility of asking probing questions of a convicted criminal, a serial liar, and sexual abuser running for President of the US and you are playing badminton with him?  I can’t believe it. My opening question would be: you told XXX number of lies at you RNC acceptance speech. Are you concerned you will alienate more educated voters with so much lying?

Lawrence O’Donnell took the first 24 minutes of his show Thursday nite to ream the press for their disappointing behavior.

And while the press was playing tea party with the Orange Turd, the same networks unanimously were absent from today’s Kalama Harris campaign event where she went to the UAW, because, you know, she is more likely to actually be president and her opinions might actually have some policy import.. But who cares?  Not the network suits?  And the context: the beltway reporters have been bitching that Harris is not taking press questions.  But when she did today, most all the reporters were hundreds of miles away in Trump’s lair dutifully transcribing for broadcast Trump’s impaired and senseless ramblings, lies and insults. Business as usual. Objective journalism. LOL.

So as I said, Trump is losing, but he is not yet beaten.

But we are on the right track. The jovial stance of the Harris-Walz ticket is like kryptonite for the dour, sour and angry Trump.  Harris has closed the enthusiasm gap in three weeks and Democrats now show more interest in the race than MAGATS.  She closed the youth gap. An entire generation of voters  had tuned out of the race when they saw two 80 year old men up there who had no connection to their life.  Organizers say in the last 3 weeks, Gen Z has awakened, has realized the election is upon them and that it matters. And that explains the skyrocketing fundraising and voter registration.  Jarris has moved ahead in the national polls.  And she is ahead or tied and moving up in the swing states. A month from now she should be up 5-10 points.

I think the tidal wave of Democratic energy we are seeing is about something much much larger than the candidates.  I have come up with this theory:  The surge for Harris-Walz is actually the inevitable pushback against a a dark decade of Trump and Covid and has little to do with the specifics of the candidates.  We lost a million people in the mismanaged pandemic and that blood is on the idiot whose supporters claimed it was all a hoax.  Those are 20 Vietnams!  And yet there has been no national mourning.  No accountability for the mismanagement.  It’s like two atom bombs went off in major American cities and there were a few shoulder shrugs.

Times of severe national crisis, like wars and pandemics, are breeding grounds for demagogues and dictators who feed off the fears of the people.  Trump emerged before COVID, but it was True Evil that emerged when he became the manager of the pandemic.  Assholes in pick up trucks with Trump banners pulling the masks off school children on the sidewalk. Hare-brained conspiracy slams on life-saving vaccines and other health measures.  I think it fair to say the country went crazy, all while being threatened with mass death, and while governed by a blithering and nasty and lying idiot.  What country would not be destabilized? How much more efficiently can you destroy faith in national institutions when you have several loons, with an assist from the Prez, demeaning and eventually satanizing the heroic public health official — Anthony Fauci— who selflessly put up with Trump’s madness in order to save millions of lives. Now the Trumpanzees are vowing to arrest him if they win in November. Unreal.

In a better and more rational world, the peasants would have grabbed their pitchforks and driven the Trumpies from our land years ago. Instead, millions of semi-Zombies, racists, poorly educated, bitter motherfuckers, macho men, actual fascists and other deranged species, incels, basement dwellers, “low information” and “low propensity” voters coalesced to give the Mad Orange an electoral base that in cold terms peaks out at about 46%.  (What about low IQ?) It says a lot about America that we have that many deranged folks (yes yes I know things are expensive but that is not a justification for demolishing rule of law and democracy) but that’s for another day.  So we wound up with this supposedly “polarized” country.

But it’s not a 50-50 split. The anti-Trump coalition is much bigger than the pro. – if it turns out to vote.  Also the more educated, the more dynamic, the more productive sectors of the society are fiercely anti-Trump and that is also a limiting factor for him. It’s not an accident that the states that fund the national government and produce its major scientific and technological breakthroughs are deep Blue. The Red states top the Blues only in STD’s and domestic abuse and how dependent they are on federal funding to help pay for their insufficient social services. I am sorry to say THERE ARE shit hole states and Donald Trump is their shit head candidate.

What I find wonderful is that the jovial and mocking attitude of the Harris-Walz ticket, and especially Walz’s, has the effect of shrinking and shriveling Trump.  It erodes his power, it debilitates him, it exposes him as a third-rate Wizard of Oz. The big bad arrogant unbeatable Trump becomes a bloated, elderly, incoherent man-child still going on about how he really won in 2020 and on the verge of political defeat.  He’s dangerous still.  But more effective at this point to just laugh and ridicule him.  He’s a joke. Let’s treat him that way. And then let’s send him to the rubbish bin of history (and those of you fools voting Green we might toss u in with him).

I guess what I am struggling to say is that the wave of momentum carrying the Democratic ticket is really about Americans breaking free of the gloom that began when The Imbecile descended that elevator in 2015 and took a radical turn for the worse in 2019 with the pandemic.  Biden, already frail, already lacking contagious energy, almost not campaigning, easily won in 2020 because Americans were anxious to be rid of Trump.  They didn’t know January 6 was just around the corner. They didn’t know the Biden DOJ would be so limp in going after Trump, and nobody figured the GOP would resurrect their battered and deposed leader and directly aid his resurrection as an insurrectionary anti-democratic, (but always rock stupid) demagogue running for a second term as “dictator.” You can send a thank you card to Mitch McConnell who rescued Trump from his second impeachment.

People were SO tired of Trump, that almost any Democrat would have beaten him in 2020 as the mediocre candidacy of Biden did.  Problem is, Trump never went away. Nor did MAGA.  And I believe their ongoing toxicity contributes mightily to the dark and despairing mood that has clouded America since the summer of 2015. .  Hope of disposing of Trump by electing Biden was foiled and the resentment and gloom produced by Trump continues to simmer and depress the anti-Trump electorate. And now it has burst free after a very slowed down Biden blocked out the sun. We have always had a lunatic political fringe. But this is the first time in many many decades that thje fringe was moved into the mainstream. Time to push to back to the margins.

And that’s why I believe what we we are seeing these past three weeks are not just a Democratic surge, but a more generalized lunge for freedom, joy and light by millions of Americans who are not just paying more for eggs (!) but are also god-damned tired of the vitriol, hatred, divisiveness, threats, thuggery and general chaos created by Trump and the MAGATS.  Thye are tired of a tyrannical and reactionary Supreme Court. Tired of the attacks on reproductive freedom. Tired of the xenophobia. Tired of the anti-gay rhetoric. Tired of book banning and judges wanting to accompany you to the OB GYN. Tired of the name calling, the insults, the defamation and the celebration of truly twisted individuals from J.D. Vance to Kyle Rittenhouse (do you know that three days ago several minstream news outlets found it imperative to report that this young killer Rittenhouse has decided to endorse Trump after he decided he was not. Do these reporters and editors have anything else to do except inflict upon us the inner thoughts of some pscyho-twisted gun slinger?"). And you wonder why the American people are so poorly aware of the greater world around them when they are marinated and baked day and night in trivial “news.”

We just want to see some sun break through what has become the perpetual ominous overcast.

These MAGA miscreants are not going away anytime soon. But if we keep our heads screwed on and do the work, we should be excited and energized and even optimistic that in 87 days we can politically decapitate MAGA and degrade its political strength down ballot.  We can move Trump closer to trial and judgement and confinement. We can maintain rule of law and our flawed but real democracy. 

And maybe in some small our vote can also remember the one million dead we have never properly mourned or even recognized.
