Coop Scoop: End of Year Edition

Hey, it’s my birthday today (more in a minute) and I am planning to take a break maybe till the end of the month with the possibility of chiming in if compelled by the unfolding of events. But definitely shifting into low gear for a week or two. Might post most some of my usual acerbic comments on Facebook during the break just for fun so u can peek there if you cannot live without me. Maybe not. Maybe some pics too. Maybe not.

Now, here comes the final pitch of the year. Do me the courtesy of reading it.

I am retired and financially solvent. I do not care to use Coop Scoop to live or to augment my personal income, as many substackers do, by churning out constant red meat for niche audiences who willingly pay to reconfirm their views with little debate or tolerance for diverging views. I have definite views on many issues as you know, but I am respectful and appreciative foe those who diverge and want to civilly dissent.

The additional funding I am asking for will be 100% re-invested in the Scoop to fund long-promised additions like podcasts, maybe a youtube show and some AMA’s. I need more time and some paid assistance to carry this out. This is not about funding a new car or some vacation. :)

We all know that this coming year is going to be a ferocious battle for the future of our country. We have not faced an internal threat this great during any period of recent history. It’s no picnic when a major presidential candidate begins adopting the language of racial purification and mass deportations and is applauded by tens of millions. I am fairly confident — but not sure— we will meet this challenge, but failure is not an option.

The Coop Scoop will be dedicating all of its humble energy and focus during 2024 in this cause to defend our freedoms, our democracy and the future for our children.

I have ambitious plans for expansion in this regard but lack all the resources I will need. This is the worst time of the year to make funding appeals because of holiday expenses, travel, and what I feel is the incessant online begging from both political parties and their PAC’s and front groups. Because I have donated to a few individual candidates directly but not to the DNC, I have now received several idiotic appeals from the DSC saying, “Oh so, Mr Cooper you are now classified as a Trump supporter.” It is a plague, the way I see it. And one that will turn off, not encourage needed pro-democracy voters,

In the case of Coop Scoop, I have no choice. The recent radical changes in leading social media algorithms now shadow suppress and severely limit the spread of links from competing platforms creating a major barrier to online fundraising from sites like this. The readership here is solid. The percentage of paid subscribers is not where it should be, And the crunch is not mortal but it is real and we can thank Zuck, Musk and others for their monopolization and greed,.

Believe me, I know how irksome email fundraising appeals can be. I pretty much hate them. But at present I have little choice. I have kept every edition of Coop Scoop free for anybody and everybody for three years now and I have resisted any sort of paywall and hope dearly to continue this practice during this next year.
