Coop Scoop Oct.20: The No Time for Sideshows Edition

Coop Scoop: The No Time for Sideshows Edition
October 20, 2020
Issue #42
This will be a relatively short but important newsletter as we will have a meatier one in a few days after the last and final presidential debate.
As usual, we begin with a very brief overview of the state of play 14 days out from November 3.
Given that every single strategy and tactic used by Trump in this final stretch has wildly blown up in his face, there might be one trick still available to Trump in Thursday’s debate.
Perhaps, I’m just musing, but maybe he should pull a Tubin’ Toobin in the middle of the debate. You know, drop trow, whip out his johnson and give it a waggle. I believe this might be his only chance to change the national narrative about the dangers of the spiking COVID pandemic and the dangers of Trump “managing” it for another four years.
No matter how big or small the issue at hand, it would certainly give the country something else to talk about for a few days.
But not gonna happen. We can forecast with complete certainty that the debate will be one more car crash for Trump, one of the last before his presidential career is arrested.
As someone who has to follow all this campaign garbage I can tell you what the greatest challenge is for me to write about. Every week a hundred things, mostly bad things, happen but the race itself remains absolutely static.
Trump definitively crashed a few weeks ago and since then, he just remains on the floor bleeding, while continuing to stab himself with his ice pick speeches and tweets.
Trump has reached the level of quite literally a raving lunatic. His rallies are all about HIS fears and not about those of even his supporters. He shows no interest in really trying to win.
I agree with Donny Deutsch that Trump’s real strategy is to galvanize his current base so that when he loses, he can gracefully transition to a new streaming Trump TV or Magavision, soaking his former supporters, QAnon loons, incels, and the Great Disgruntled for a $5.99 a month subscription and making a billion or two dollars.
In my heart I think this is what Trump most desires, so long as he doesn’t get picked up on a passel of arrest warrants.
Again, I am not going to recite his crimes and mentally ill statements of the week. You already know them all. Suffice it to say he is now a 90-10 long shot and that 10 percent accounts ONLY for unforeseen catastrophes – like Krakatoa blowing up again and sending a toxic gas cloud over the polling booths in Wisconsin and Michigan.
I am no longer even going to debate whether he wins or loses, because he has already lost and that doesn’t mean complacency. It means pulling out all the stops to win the vote, guarantee it and defend and protect it. Be a warrior not a worrier. We are at the end of the road now, and worrying does nothing except depress the vote of your friends and co-workers. It keeps you from text banking. It stops you from donating. If you walk around half-sure Trump is going to win, some voters are gonna conclude there is no point in voting and, worse, no point in becoming an activist to defend that vote.
Dear Reader: It was exactly a year ago that I announced the coming creation of the Coop Scoop and it strated up a handful of weeks later.
It's crucial we continue to grow the Coop Scoop as we enter the most perilous and dramatic period in recent American history. Even if Trump is defeated, Trumpism isn't going away anytime soon. And an incoming Democratic administration will have to fight tooth and nail to get things done.
And we the people will have to fight even harder as we know that real change always comes from the bottom and we must hold ALL politicians accountable.
So, yes, we need solid and increased financial support. We have been getting a constant moderate stream of support and we now have about 750 readers. We need to double and then triple that. I know that of lot you have chipped in $5, $10 or $25 to many political campaigns. Now we need everybody reading this to to do the same for the Coop Scoop.
In the coming hurly-burly of the next few months we are not going to have much time for fundraising. So how about getting through that NOW, today, this week?
Consider this note, then, not a reminder but rather a forceful appeal for your economic support.
We have two different platforms you can use.
Become a monthly sustainer for as little as $4 a month or even better at $10 or $15. You can sign up for that at:
www.patreon.com/coopernewsletter
We also welcome one time or recurring donations via paypal:
www.paypal.me/coopernewsletter
I am setting an ambitious goal of $5000.00 over the next two weeks. And I know we can do it. So please dig deep and help out.
Any donation guarantees you 50 or so editions of the newsletter for 12 months.
After the election, we are moving Coop Scoop to a new platform with many more features. There will still be a shorter, free version of Coop Scoop still available but you will need to be a donor/subscriber to get the full experience which will include some video AMA's, perhaps some podcasts and full uncut editions of the newsletter among other perks.
Thanks! Please act now.
There are, however, two other pressing topics to which we have to immediately shift our attention. I will give them a more detailed look in the next few days to come.
Number One is what we need to do if and when Trump refuses to concede. There are dozens of scenarios being conjured, though nobody knows nothing. We need to get ahead of this curve. Liberals and Democrats have literally hundreds of small organizations scattered across the country but have little cohesion and leadership.
To the best of our ability we need NOW to pull them together so that The Day After we are already organized and coordinated. We have to be ready to march, demonstrate, engage in civil disobedience and get arrested. In massive numbers. The one thing that ain’t gonna happen is going to be clear directives from the Democrats. They will fight in court, period. That’s not enough. I suggest you get in touch with Indivisible, Common Cause, The ACLU, your local labor union, even your local Democratic Club and start acting like Boy Scouts…getting prepared and serious.
Facebook memes trashing any of Trump’s extra-judicial moves will be meaningless. We need warm bodies.
Number Two: We have to carry over this ground level organization to be ready to fight during the first 100 days, the first year of the Biden administration. No time for sideshows, folks. Biden-Harris will have exactly 18 months to get things accomplished before the mid-term campaigns and the usual loss of one part of congress in 2022.
We have been subjected to four years of shock and awe by Trump. Democrats need to conduct a similar blitz in their first year or they, and we, can forget it. The two pre-requisites for ANY and I mean any change whether it’s the pandemic, health care, the economy, criminal justice reform etc etc. are striking down the filibuster and expanding the Supreme Court by four seats to achieve some sort of rational balance. These can be achieved with a fully Democratic congress with a simple majority vote.
I don’t think Biden wants to undertake either of these measures. And I know that there are some squish Democrats on Capitol Hill who are also scared to make these moves.
Just remember, as long as the GOP has the filibuster AND the courts, absolutely NO Democratic legislation will be enacted. Every Democratic reform will either be blocked by a filibuster or overturned by the extreme right wing Supreme Court.
And the issue of the filibuster and the court will not be taken up by the Democrats unless millions forcefully demand it. The real battle begins, not ends, on November 3.
Much more to come this week! See u right after the debate Thursday.
