In the early 1930’s, Joseph Stalin and his acolytes decided to sacrifice what turned out to be several million lives by forcing Russian peasants into joining collective farms. This blood-drenched exercise was coldly planned and brutally executed.
The Soviet operatives sent into the countryside deployed cudgels, guns and massive arrests to “persuade” the reticent peasants to surrender to his new plan to feverishly develop the Russian economy, at whatever cost.
Donald Trump is hardly acting on the same scale as Stalin. And his tactics are far from different. But the underlying similarity between the two is more than striking. Trump is now willing to consciously engage in a human sacrifice that he now knows will cost hundreds of thousands of lives – and with a few unlucky twists might even get him into the 7-figure category.
Unlike Stalin, Trump needs no police, no troops, no guns, no naked dictatorship to force American workers into the death march of early “re-opening.” All he needs is the system we already have in place. Most of us MUST sell our labor on the market and that’s hard to do when the marketplace is over-run with a lethal disease. And if you don’t work, eventually you don’t eat.
