Coop Scoop Special Election Edition #4 Ten Takeaways From the Trump Sunday Rally
Repugnant, crude, revolting and totally fascist
October 28, 2024
By Marc Cooper
The Trump closing rally Sunday night at Madison Square Garden was crude, repulsive, blatantly racist, threatening and in more than one way — historic.
Historic because analysts will conclude that he closed out his campaign by closing out what looked like a likely victory -- though one still is in reach.
Also, historic because MSG was the venue in 1939 when American pro-Nazis held a standing room only rally with a portrait of George Washington and a Swastika banner on the side.
But that was it. Roosevelt was in power and was easily re-elected. The President knew very well that the US would have to eventually enter WWII and a couple of thousand sympathizers of Hitler in New York were not going to stop the inevitable.
Trump’s rally in the same venue –and I doubt if this was not deliberate -- was a frankly vile and garish display of a much larger pro-dictator movement led by a raging idiot who cannot complete a sentence but who can grunt out one violent fascist threat after another. He can speak interminably but make no sense. He can also still be elected president and that’s a lot more “historic” than the 1939 rally that went nowhere.
Sunday night he held a consistent theme backed up by manufactured lies and distortions all delivered in blatantly racist terms. America is a dump now because of “migrants.”
Those who have squirmed or grimaced about Trump being called a “fascist” were grossly proven wrong or naïve by Trump’s revolting rhetoric that, with no exaggeration, could have been lifted word by word from Hitler or Goebbels at the Berlin Sportspalast. All you had to do was replace the Nazi speeches denouncing and dehumanizing and threatening Jews and substitute the word “migrants” and you have a match.
Donald J. Trump is a fascist. MAGA is a pro fascist movement that is as loyal to Trump as the SS was to Adolph Hitler. And there is no longer a conservative American political party. It is now MAGA and it has governors in 26 states, and a House run by a religious fascist.
If you think my language is too hot, I suggest you watch a YouTube video of the rally and then write me and tell me a better classification.
Yes, he’s a convicted criminal. An adjudicated sexual predator who was introduced no less by his “migrant” trophy wife, the betrayals of whom has cost him millions in legal verdicts and was received by the bodies in the seats as some sort of God.
According to Trump, America has now been “occupied” by migrants, they have “invaded” the U.S. (also brought in with “shiny new planes” by Kamala Harris). He claims she brought in thousands from mental hospitals in the Congo and that we have suffered immigration from 181 different countries, which in a normal world would be a matter of national honor. These migrant criminals have also taken over various cities and even Times Square that was about 10 blocks away from where he was speaking. I could go on about his rambling and nauseating threats but you have already heard them before. But never before with this amplitude and visible anger, mein herr.
Those in attendance (probably mostly from Staten Island) acted just like a pack of bloodthirsty storm troopers sans uniforms (I don’t know if any had guns). But like trained seals they barked their approval of every incoherent threat, especially when Trump vowed “ On day one you are going to see the biggest deportation in American history,” and the crowd roared and chanted “send them back!.” Deportation, by the way, was the euphemism the Nazis used for transporting their victims to the death camps.
The whole fascist and blatantly racist tone of the rally was set by the opening acts of the hour’s long affair.
The New York Times neatly synthesized the first part of the rally:
“A comic kicked off the rally by dismissing Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage,” then mocked Hispanics as failing to use birth control, Jews as cheap and Palestinians as rock-throwers, and called out a Black man in the audience with a reference to watermelon.
Another speaker likened Vice President Kamala Harris to a prostitute with “pimp handlers.” A third called her “the Antichrist.” And the former Fox News host Tucker Carlson mocked Ms. Harris — the daughter of an Indian mother and a Jamaican father — with a made-up ethnicity, saying she was vying to become “the first Samoan-Malaysian, low IQ former California prosecutor ever to be elected president.”
“By the time the former president himself took the stage, an event billed as delivering the closing message of his campaign, with nine days left in a tossup race, had instead become a carnival of grievances, misogyny and racism.
If the parade of speakers felt at times like a Republican National Convention reunion — Senator JD Vance of Ohio, Mr. Carlson, Vivek Ramaswamy, Alina Habba, Lee Greenwood, the Trump family all appeared — they seemed to have returned for a bonus fifth night that was more inflammatory than the original in July.
The rally served as a capstone to an escalating series of remarks from Mr. Trump, who has repeatedly said in recent days that one of the gravest threats that America faces is “the enemy within.” Democrats have cranked up warnings of Mr. Trump’s descent into authoritarianism as John F. Kelly, the former Marine general who was his longest-serving chief of staff, warned that Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist.”
The NYTimes has endorsed Harris and has not abstained as have the billionaire owners of the LATimes and the Washington Post, who I think can now be legitimately labeled not only as ass—kissers but as American Quislings.
Trump’s speech was two hours late as he wanted the audience warmed up by the werewolves of his inner circle. Melania stumbled through a pre-written speech and given she was also a “migrant,” focused her spiel on totally fabricated horror stories of a homicidal crime wave, ignoring that crime continues to fall.
Then another former migrant, one who we now learn was illegally working in the US for some time after he arrived from South Africa, one Elon Musk. I’m sorry to be honest, but having “experimented” with drugs when younger and with a lot of drug use in my family and OD deaths of more than one cousin, a frenetic and disturbingly inarticulate came on stage visibly stoned on some kind of uppers, cocaine or ecstasy. He had nothing to say except go out and vote for Trump while the crowd shouted “Elon! Elon! USA! USA!” The richest man in the world does not have the intellectual acumen to put together a paragraph or maybe he was just too high.
There wasn’t a “normal” Republican among those running the show. There were only the extremists who support the insurrection of January 6 and who are Trump lackeys, including the despicable RFK Jr.
So, what does one conclude from this:
1. Trump and MAGA are for real fascists who now feel free to blurt out any racist slur that comes to their shriveled brains.
2. While not every Trump voter is a fascist. The leadership of their movement is.
3. The Trump rally historically eclipses the 1939 pro-Nazi rally in its importance as this aspiring dictator has an actual chance of winning office and becoming one.
4. It’s too bad this entire shit show was not broadcast in full across the networks so Trump could guarantee the electorate that he is a fascist and a wannabe dictator.
5. A sizeable portion of MAGA voters are not turned off by his clear bigotry, mental impediment, his criminal convictions and his raging Xenophobia – aimed at darker skinned migrants. They want a dictatorship and are not accessible to any counter-persuasion.
6. Just as Hitler before him, he raged against the media, several times pointing to the reporters placed together as “bad people” and part of “the enemy within,” a line repeatedly used by Hitler and Stalin in justifying their blood-soaked repression.
7. I can imagine the rally fired up the most extreme of his supporters who were going to vote for him anyway, as well the less engaged Trumpies who are not so brash as they are cult zombies or just good-old fashioned America white racists and would actually vote for Hitler himself if his opponent was a Black woman. I am absolutely sure that this rally will not win Trump a single new vote. And it might be his own October Surprise in alienating more of the moderate suburban voters who will now lean to Harris. And it might convince at least a few of the pro-Palestinian youth that the lesser of two evils is the pragmatic and MORAL road to stop this fascist by voting for Harris.
8. This rally was also proof positive of the collective failure of the mainstream media to properly frame and report the Trump story from at least 2019 and especially after January 6. Treating Trump like any other candidate, never describing him as the fascist he is, and not understanding and reporting that this election was, in the end, a referendum on Trump’s clear intentions to wreck American democracy is criminal. The non endorsements of this week only remind us that the media should never be in the hands of oligarchs as that species always favors more wealth, more power and lower taxes over the antiquated notion of a democratic republic. They are fascist enablers at a minimum. And while we are the subject of media impact, I’m gonna salute the the top ranking retired military leaders now saying that Trump is a fascist, knew this years ago and remained quiet.
9. Those “normal” Republicans, even ones like Mitch McConnell being heard on tape denouncing Trump, are still saying they will vote for him. So will shape-shifter Nikki Haley. And while Mitt Romney comes off like Bernie Sanders compared to the MAGA extremists and says he will not vote for Trump denies any possibility of voting, gasp, for a Democrat.
10. While Trump might not have won over any new voters and might actually lose a few, he won over nobody new with this spectacle. But he’s not out of the race by any means and we will probably see no changes in polls if there any more in the next nine days. We must not surrender to the bluster and have to take this moment as a do or die contest for the republic and for rule of law. Do not give in. Use this last week to work the doors if you are in a swing state. Work the doors to defeat vulnerable MAGA stooge incumbents in Blue State GOP-held congressional districts. Donate and donate some more. Talk to your neighbors, families and friends as every vote counts.
Do not delude yourself into thinking your anxiety will subside if Harris wins on November 5. There will be 76 days between that day and her certification in office. They will be dark, violent days and you should prepare for the tumult and not just whine about it. It will be a storm that will dwarf Jan 6 as the violent MAGA protests will emerge in several state capitals that do not have the security measures the DC Capitol has now. We might see types of race-based violence not seen in a century. And virtually nobody will be “safe.”
If Trump wins, I would also an outburst of celebratory violence carried out by the armed wing of MAGA, the militias who have been training for this for years.
Of course, your anxiety and legitimate fear will spike if Trump wins. Take a deep breath or two and get back into the fight. And that is not only a political necessity but also a form of therapy because the more you DO, the less depressed you will be.
So what to do if Trump wins? How about helping to organize a two million citizen march in DC on Inauguration Day? And similar street protests in other state capitals? How about working with your neighbors to protect the immigrants in your neighborhood? Do you have contact with an immigration lawyer who can try to intervene? Are you setting up a network of phone and text trees so your folks can be informed and mobilized if someone is being taken. And for those physically fit, I strongly suggest that you take some serious non-violence training because we are need it badly if this fascist is elected.
And please accept the fact that win or lose, we will be contending with a strong pro-fascist MAGA movement as one of the two “parties” but this one with an armed wing and a lot of shit in their heads. That is as much of reality as smog was in LA in the 1970’s. The fascists are not going away after Nov 5, win or lose.
I do not think a Trump victory is certain. In fact, objectively as possible, I believe Harris will win because there is a “silent majority” of sane and rational Americans who are sick of all polls and are not responding as they see the entire political world as a circus and will come out to be rid of the bluster and chaos stirred up by Trump. Polls this weekend show Harris regaining the supposed Black vote the media declared she had lost and I bet dollars to donuts that the Black vote Trump gets from Blacks will return to previous Democratic levels. And the women’s vote? I don’t buy for a moment the new pundit line that abortion is fading as an issue.
Stay tuned and do not give an inch. You fight fascists by fighting them, not going supine. And btw the crew around Trump are undisciplined clowns and look like babies compared to the NAZI SS who rigorously trained their recruits. Most of MAGA are scared and poorly educated white people and are not to be feared as some sort of unbeatable force in any venue I can think of.
Everybody out this week no matter the cost.
Turn out the anti-Trump voter whether you are a Democrat, independent, Green or anti-Trump Republican. There are more of us than them and this rally alone should get you inspired to smash MAGA next week. +

Were we separated at birth? You have had the time and stamina to put my exact thoughts to "paper." And I, still what one might call a socialist, take issue with the insistence on the part of what hopefully is a negligible faction of leftists that any vote is "a vote for genocide" due to Harris's complicity with the Biden administration and that all else, all cumulative domestic suffering and any problem that presents to Americans matters not a whit in comparison to the atrocities occurring n the Middle East. We in the U.S. face only trivial problems, they say -- the moral imperative is to stop the genocide, a scenario that renders meaningless our concerns about racism, sexism, ageism, and classism at home.
The left dismiss those of us who support Harris, even if we do not "identify" as liberals per se, with the usual arguments, including refutations that what we are witnessing is fascism. They argue about which labels mean what, citing texts that are obscure to most, without any reflexive consideration for how they favor and further single-minded categorical and semantic distinctions to bully others into silence. Arrogance.
